Stuff in my life
Monday, January 28, 2008
Sorry I haven't posted in a while. Things have been busy for me with the holidays, work, and then life in general. Things for the most part are good. As most of you that read this know, I'm on a mission to drop some weight. I really want to get down to 175. I started out at 226 and currently I'm sitting at 198. It's been tough and I still fight a daily battle of making myself go to the Y and watch the calorie intake. It is kind of amazing though what can happen when you put your mind to it. You start getting addicted to wanting to workout. You get addicted to watching what you eat. Granted, we don't eat 100% healthy all the time but you get addicted to looking at what you eat and when you do eat something non-healthy, you at least look at how many calories it has. This time last year I wouldn't have even bothered thinking about ordering pizza or what I'm ordering at McDonalds. Now though, I actually now consider what I'm ordering and how it will affect my eating for the rest of the day. I know to some of you this sounds stupid and what not, but I actually want to make an attempt to be healthier this year and also be healthier than most people I know. I've been going to the Y religiously. I usually head to the Hermitage center at least 5 times a week. Most of the time I just walk and run but I've recently started using the elliptical machines which I have found are pretty effective in their own right. I've gotten pretty good with the whole treadmill thing. I've worked my way up to jogging over 3 miles. If you know me, then you know thats a big deal. I was always that kid in elementary school who walked the curves and ran the straights. I didn't care about running the mile. I usually just chatted with friends for the P.E. class. Now though, I'm proud of myself for 3 miles. As I talk to people about it, I've realized that most people can't do it. Most of the people I've talked to about it say they can't even go a mile. I don't know if I'll be able to hit a half marathon run, but I'm at least trying my best. Who knows though? 13 miles could be in the future. The day I run 13 miles though I want it to end like the beginning of Pee-Wee's Big Adventure when Pee-Wee wins the Tour De France. I want people there to shower me with praise and goodies. I think 13 miles would be the biggest accomplishment ever in my life for me personally. Who knows? It could be in the future. For right now though, I'm totally concentrating on getting down to my target weight before I do anything else.
There's other stuff going on with me but I'm not gonna go into it here. Most of it is stuff you just need to ask me about. I will say this though, emotions kill me. I wish we had a built in way of turning are feelings off and on. Life would be so much simpler. I think this change in lifestyle was spurned by emotions. Sometimes we'll do almost anything because of our emotions and feelings. I can honestly say that the loss of 28 has been because of emotions and feelings. The loss of 23 more will be because of it too.
As is most of America, I'm a tired of the writers strike. It's not that I don't like reality shows or stuff like that, I just don't like how this is affecting the current season. I'm about 90% sure that because of it we're not going to get any "fresh" episodes of our favorite shows until the fall. Thats almost 8 months! And even then, supposedly if the strike isn't resolved soon we might not even get shows in the fall. I don't think I can handle reality and reruns until then. Hopefully though some of the networks have some stockpiled series. Terminator is pretty good so far and Fox also has some new show called New Amsterdam that looks pretty good. Its about a NYC detective that happens to be an immortal. Interesting.... Also on Fox, that new lie detector show is crazy. I don't like all the commentary by the host and contestants but the questions they have to answer are crazy. I don't honestly know if I could be that upfront with people like that. Anyways, I am looking forward to the 8 new episodes of Lost, the new season of Big Brother, and the "final 12" episodes of American Idol. Well, thats enough on the TV front.
I'm finished here. If I think of anything else to blog about I'll post it.
Thanks for reading and thanks to everyone who has encouraged me over the past few months. It means the world to me.
p.s. Anyone and everyone is invited over to my place on Thursday night the 31st for the season premiere of Lost and then again on Sunday night for the Super Bowl. Nothing like watching all that stuff in HD and on the big screen! Feel free to email me for directions and info.
This is really funny....
Best of 2007

Its time for my best of 2007 movies list.....
I went by the 2007 list of movies
here.
Now I don't want to do a top 10 list because I think those are stupid. Well, not stupid, but I just don't think you can pick in sequential order a favorite list out of everything released. I just don't believe in top 10 lists like that. Now, I do think it is possible to have a favorite movie of the year, but not a top 10. I just don't like them...
Anyways...here's my list of favorite 2007 movies
Smokin Aces
Reno 911!: Miami
300
Meet the Robinsons
Grindhouse
Aqua Teen Hunger Force Colon Movie Film for Theatres
Disturbia
28 Weeks Later
Knocked Up
Mr. Brooks
Live Free or Die Hard
Transformers
Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix
Hairspray
Bourne Ultimatum
Stardust
Superbad
3:10 to Yuma
Across the Universe
Lars and the Real Girl
Dan in Real Life
Beowulf
Enchanted
Juno
P.S. I Love You
Sweeney Todd
Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story
Ratatouille(I had to watch this again to really like it. Originally, I didn't like it that much)
Now, I'm not perfect and I don't get to see everything. So here's my list of 2007 movies that I still need to see and could possibly make my favorites list. This way you can't argue with me over my original choices. HA!
Breach
Astronaut Farmer
Zodiac
Reign Over Me
Shooter
1408
Talk to Me
Sunshine
Rescue Dawn
Eastern Promises
Into the Wild
Elizabeth the Golden Age
Gone Baby Gone
American Gangster
August Rush
Charlie Wilsons War
Atonement
There Will Be Blood
And finally here's my list of 2007 movies that were good. They're not bad and I have nothing against these movies. I didn't hate them at all. I just didn't think they were the best to me.
Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End
Ghost Rider
Black Snake Moan
TMNT
Blades of Glory
Spiderman 3
Shrek the Third
Hostel Part II
Oceans 13
FF: Rise of Silver Surfer
The Simpsons Movie
The Brothers Solomon
Shoot Em Up
Resident Evil: Extinction
Michael Clayton
No Country for Old Men(I know, I know. Leave me alone about it. It had some cool moments but overall I was bored. I need to see it again for my opinion to change. I think I might just have been too tired. I love the Coens though...)
The Golden Compass
I Am Legend
National Treasue: Book of Secrets
AVP:R
I realized thanks to watching the podcast
The Totally Rad Show
and IMDB, that Children of Men was released on January 5, 2007. I guess it gets forgotten because of last years Oscars. Well, it is a 2007 movie, so I am placing it on my list. Not only is it going on my list, but it is going to the top. In my opinion, Children of Men was the best movie to be released in 2007. It gets The Bilcourt award for Best Picture.
Best Picture- Children of Men (if you want to be a jerk about it being in last years awards then fine, the 2nd place winner would probably Knocked Up or 3:10 to Yuma. Maybe...)
Best Comedy- Superbad
Best action/"popcorn flick"- tie, Live Free or Die Hard and 300
Best Musical- Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story
Honorable Mention- Mr. Brooks. If you still haven't seen this yet, do it. Yes, it has Kevin Costner AND Dane Cook in it, but its really good.
Time for TV!
Once again, this list is in no real order except for a clear winner of favorite show. So here goes...
Pushing Daisies
The Office
30 Rock
Lost
Journeyman-(I'm still pissed at NBC for canceling this show. It was so good and had so much potential!)
24
It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia-(I got into this REALLY late but I've seen them all so I'm counting it)
Battlestar Galactica
Smallville
Dirty Sexy Money
The winner of my favorite show of the year goes to....... Planet Earth. It has to be one of the most amazing shows I have ever seen on tv. It just amazes me everytime I see an episode about how cool our planet is. People talk about going to Mars in the future. After seeing Planet Earth, it makes us realize how little most of us know about our own world.
Really quick.....
My favorite video game of 07'- Portal
If you're game can make me actually finish it in less than 3 days, then you have created a good game. Well done, Valve software. Well done....
I'm not going to get into my favorite music of 07'. I'm just not into current music like some people. I will let Josh handle the music part of he so wishes. I'm willing to bet someone a 100 bucks though that I don't know half of the people he lists. Thats how out of touch I am with music....
