Speed Racer

I saw this on the front page of MySpace today....I don't know about you but I really don't know what to think about this movie. I mean on one hand, I'm thinking this could be a really cool movie. On the other hand, I'm thinking this could be just a bunch of mumbo jumbo epileptic silliness. I guess if anything I'm intrigued. The movie itself is supposedly 135 minutes. I don't know if I can handle 135 minutes of this yet i'm intrigued to see what The Wachowskis have come up with. Even if the movie sucks I bet the racing scenes will still be cool as hell in IMAX. Feel free to leave thoughts!

So....I'm trying out this service called Twitter. I heard about it on last weeks Diggnation podcast and again in the news when a guy was arrested in Egypt. He simply posted "Arrested" on his Twitter and people saw it and helped rescue him. I'm just trying it, but feel free to follow! If you have a Twitter page then please let me know and I can "follow" along with you.

WOW....
This is impressive. I mean, we've all seen fake screens on tv that were thin and could bend and stuff like that. To see that stuff really starting to happen is cool.
You have to be kidding me....

Wow. Its amazing how we learn new things everyday. I've been playing music since I was around 10 in some capacity. So I know my fair share of instruments and music theory. I have never seen one of these until today. A contrabass sax.... That thing is huge!(thats what she said!) I guess in retrospect, I should have realized something like this existed but I have never seen one played nor even heard of it.
In other randomness stuff of the day.....
Yes, he used a trampoline but that is still a long dunk that WAS right on. I know I couldn't have done that probably. So props to this guy...

The Last Lecture
Friday, April 11, 2008
I know I've told some of you about this, but please watch it. I haven't been moved by something like this in a really long time. Randy Pausch should be an inspiration to us all. What hes facing and yet what hes done with his life in the past and in the present is truly remarkable. Please if you haven't seen "The Last Lecture", take an hour or so and watch it. If you know me and would like to borrow the book he wrote about "The Last Lecture", then please let me know.

Saturday night at Mad Donnas
Ok, let me preface all of this by saying I have NOTHING against gay people at all. I don't care how people live. Its their business. So the story I am about to tell you is mainly based on surprise and not realizing the environment I was going into.
So Saturday afternoon, I called Josh to see if he and Jesse had any plans for Saturday night. They told me that a girl we went to high school with was having a birthday party at a bar in east Nashville. I've met the girl a few times but I don't know her like Josh and Jesse do. I still thought it would be fun to tag along.
Around 8:45, Josh, Jesse, his brother Jordan, and myself headed out to the bar. We stopped along the way to get some flowers for the birthday girl and then headed downtown. We got down there to the four points area and it was a place across from another bar called "The Lipstick Lounge"o...k......
We walk in and there is a restaurant downstairs and a bar upstairs. We walked up the stairs and I immediately noticed a DJ/VJ(they had tvs with videos playing) wearing a sequined pair of headphones along with some late 30's bald guy doing a backflip on their little dance floor. o....k......
The other thing I immediately notice is that most people are dressed in fairly nice clothes. I was wearing a pair of khaki pants, a button up shirt from Old Navy, and a baseball cap. It was probably in my mind but I felt out of place kind of. Granted we were all wearing casual clothes. Nothing really nice like some of the people there. Well, Jesse looked better than the other three of us. lol o....k.....
We made our way up to the bar, which was fairly crowded, and began to wait to order. At the bar, there were quite a few attractive women there. Kind of reminded me of Sex in the City or something, even though I've never seen the show. They did have guys with them and I thought nothing really more of it. Just guys and girls at a local bar. After Josh ordered, I took the drink menu they had and began to look it over to see what they offered. They had the usual beer and wine. On the other side of the menu they had all sorts of different martinis and margaritas. I finally got the bartenders attention and ordered a Yeungling. While I was waiting, I began to look over the drink menu again. They had drinks called "Lindsay Blowhan", "Britneytini", "Whitneytini", and "Chertini". I was thinking, "thats odd". About this time I look up and notice quite of few gay and lesbian looking people walking in and standing around. The bartender brought my Yeungling over and said, "Here ya go. Thhhanks!" o....k.....
I took my beer and walked back over to Josh, Jesse, and Jordan. About this time, the D/VJ began playing Flashdance. o....k.....
As I drank my beer and chatted, I noticed more and more gay and lesbians coming in. The D/VJ started playing some remix of Madonna's "Music" and "Disco Inferno" o....k.....
About this time, I'm starting to put things together. It wasn't until we went back to the bar to order another beer and I noticed a transvestite standing in between Jordan and Jesse. The D/VJ began playing Cher's "Believe" song and I realized that we were definitely in a gay bar. I think I kind of eyeballed the others to look at the transvestite and we all kind of just smiled and laughed. I remember thinking once again o...k..... I started texting my friend and sister about all of this. lol I also around this time realized this bar was called "Mad Donnas" That probably should have given it away had we noticed.
Again the bartender came over and I ordered a big glass of Yazoo Dos Perros much to the surprise I think of Josh. I'm the guy that never really drinks and I never get drunk in front of people. So for me to have finished a Yeungling and attempt to drink another big glass of beer, probably surprised them. I remember at some point standing there that Josh and I saw the transvestite talking to Jesse. Josh wondered if he should go and save her, lol.
After I got my beer, we found an empty table which happened to be positioned directly beside the dance floor area. As we sat there, people began dancing to the music, I think Janet Jackson. We sat and talked. After a little while, I definitely noticed that this beer was starting to make me feel tipsy. I guess because I don't drink much, a bottle and a big glass of beer is plenty for me to get to the first stage of drunkeness. I was still fine, but I was certainly feeling dazed sort of.
I started to feel like I had to go to the bathroom. I had drank about 4 bottles of water throughout the day at work in addition to beer. I went to find the bathroom and there were two doors. One door was labled "Donnas" and the other labled "Dons". The Dons door was cracked open and seeing how I had never been here before, I didn't know how big the bathroom was. So I opened the door and took a step in. As quickly as I took a step in, I took a step back out. It was a very small bathroom with a toilet and sink. There was also a guy peeing. When I had opened the door and turned around I just said, "Oh, hello!" I closed the door and just waited outside pretending nothing had happened. The guy came out, I went in and did my thing(locking the door) and then went back to the table. Naturally, they laughed at me for what had happened.
We sat there again and after a while, I think we all just kind of realized it was time to go. I walked up the bar and closed my tab. I decided to take one final trip to the bathroom before the car ride back. I went, stood in line, and waited. My turn came and I went into the bathroom. This time once again, I made sure the door was closed all of the way and I turned the knob to lock the door. I began to go and after about five seconds the bathroom door swings open and some gay man just barges in. My fuzzy mind caused me to just say aloud, "Oh god!" The guy just said, "Sorry, hon!" and he walked back out. Something tells me he wasn't as embarrassed as I was. Anyways, I quickly washed my hands and walked out. I immediately went up to Josh and Jesse and told them what had happened. Naturally they laughed. I told them I was definitely ready to go whenever, lol. They all said their goodbyes and we walked downstairs and left. By the time we left, the bar was clearly 80-85 percent gay and lesbian people. We walked down the street to the car. It completely made sense to me now why it was beside a bar called "The Lipstick Lounge". I remember on the way back just laughing at how awkward everything was.
It was definitely a night I won't forget.
