30 Rock

I think I have another Arrested Development on my hands. I never saw any of the first season of that show and boy do I regret it. To this day, it has to be one of my favorite comedy TV series ever (thank you Josh for introducing it to me!). Well, last year that series ended and the only other comedy that has been able to keep up to my sense of humor has been The Office. Reno 911! and Family Guy are different so I'm not including them, but those are brilliant shows too. Anyways for me, The Office has been that one comedy that I had to see every week. Until now... I saw the series premiere and a couple of episodes here and there for 30 Rock. I thought it was funny, but I guess with everything else I was trying to watch, 30 Rock just got lost in the shuffle. It was never intentional or anything, but already favorite shows mostly take a precedence over new shows.

This past week, I went to Best Buy to pick up The Office season 3 and there was 30 Rock season 1 sitting right beside it. Something told me that I needed to get 30 Rock and watch it. I don't get that feeling a lot and I don't like making "blind buy" purchases (purchasing a movie/show that you've never seen). But something in my mind said, "You like Tina Fey! She's a brilliant comedy writer!" Which is true. I do think Tina Fey is great. I also like Alec Baldwin when he's been on SNL. I like Tracy Morgan and I knew Will Arnett and some other SNL alum guest starred from seeing promos on NBC. So I bought the season 1 set. I just completed watching the 1st season and man, it is funny! It gets better and better as it goes along(thats what she said). I guess it was just bad luck that the pilot and the two episodes I saw last season just didn't impress me.

Let me now, offer some clips as to why I now love this show. It's definitely in a good 3rd place behind The Office and Arrested Development in my book.

There's one episode where Tracy Morgan's character finds out that he's a descendant of Thomas Jefferson.

After learning about it, he has dream about finding out the truth....

After having the dream, he realizes that he wants to make a movie about the life of Jefferson where he plays all the roles. He decides to use things at the show to make a concept trailer to show the head of the network. This is the trailer....

In another episode, Paul Reubens(Pee-Wee Herman) guest starred as Prince Gerhardt of Austria. Tina, Alec, and Jane Krakowski's characters went to a birthday party for the prince. Needless to say, there was something special about the prince...

The final clip is another compilation of probably my favorite recurring character played by Chris Parnell. This is not all of his parts. My favorite bits that he's in are not in this clip, but they're still funny.

To end things, if you haven't watched 30 Rock, watch it when it premieres it's 2nd season on October 4. This is one of those shows that I think will get better and better as time goes on.

At 12:00 PM, Josh said...: i totally agree. it feels like 30 Rock got lost in the tv mix (primarily because it always came on at the same time as Grey's Anatomy). like you, from the few episodes i saw, it's totally worth going back through.

so... we'll have to exchange Extras for 30 Rock... if you still havent seen them.
